Terms and Conditions
1. Introduction
Hestia ("we," "our," or "us") provides a home energy monitoring and control system. These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the web interface, API, and related features (collectively, the "Service").
By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Description of the Service
Hestia helps you to:
- Monitor electricity use, solar production, and charging at your home
- Connect and manage devices such as power meters, chargers, relays, inverters, and cars
- View energy overviews and control devices through the web interface
- Receive telemetry from connected devices via MQTT
The Service is intended for private household use where you are authorized to monitor and control the connected systems.
3. Eligibility and Responsibility
You agree to:
- Use the Service only if you have the right to do so for the relevant home and its devices
- Keep credentials, API keys, and configuration secure
- Ensure remote control of devices (e.g. relays and chargers) is done safely
- Not share access with unauthorized persons
Hestia may be self-hosted. You are responsible for operation, backups, network security, and updates of the environment where the Service runs.
4. Device and Vehicle Integrations
4.1 IoT Devices
The Service may connect to devices via MQTT and other protocols. You are responsible for correct device configuration and for having the right to use those devices.
4.2 Volvo and Other Third-Party Services
If you connect a Volvo car via Volvo ID, you also accept the terms and privacy policies that apply to Volvo's APIs. Hestia stores the OAuth credentials needed to fetch vehicle data (e.g. battery level and charging status) on your behalf.
We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or changes of third-party services such as Volvo, InfluxDB, MQTT brokers, or device manufacturers.
5. Acceptable Use
You must not:
- Use the Service in a way that could harm people, property, or the electrical grid
- Control devices without understanding the consequences (e.g. overload or unsafe charging)
- Attempt to bypass security measures or gain unauthorized access to the system
- Use the Service in violation of law or third-party agreements
- Reverse-engineer or misuse the API to disrupt the Service
6. Data and Privacy
The Service processes data needed to display and control your home energy system, including:
- Device IDs, configuration, and house associations
- Power, energy, and charging data from connected devices
- OAuth tokens for vehicle integrations
- Technical logs for troubleshooting and operation
Data is stored in the environment where Hestia runs. A separate privacy policy may be published later with more detail on retention, deletion, and your rights.
7. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is." Hestia is a tool for monitoring and control — it does not replace professional advice on electrical systems, charging infrastructure, or vehicle safety.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages, data loss, service interruptions, or harm arising from remote device control, misconfiguration, or reliance on third-party services.
8. Service Availability
We aim for stable operation but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Updates, network issues, MQTT outages, or maintenance may affect the Service. You are responsible for appropriate fallback measures if continuous monitoring or control is critical.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. New versions will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by Swedish law. Disputes should first be resolved amicably; otherwise by a court of general jurisdiction in Sweden.
